We're supposed to be in London. Due to the coronavirus pandemic we had to postpone that trip, so we're having ourselves a socially distanced staycation. Today's adventures were hiking in Crawford Notch.
During our
remote learning, Evan chose The Willey Slide for his informational writing assignment. He got the idea from our history buff friends and was excited to learn all about the mudslide that tragically ended the lives of the entire family and their two hired men. We decided to take a ride up to do some hiking and check out the spot where it all happened.
After checking out the site where the Willey's house once stood, we decided on a trail that would take us to a large water fall to hike, called Ripley Falls. It was a good hike for the heat. It was really getting hot outside and so we didn't want to be overexerting ourselves (or rather *I* didn't want to be overexerting myself!). The water fall was really nice and the boys enjoyed climbing on the rocks and playing in the water.
After the hike we decided to find a place where we could grab some lunch. It's hard to know if places have outdoor dinning (preferred due to COVID-19) or if they were even open. The first place I thought would be good ended up being closed. We found The Woodstock Inn Brewery and I'm so glad we did! They had really nice outdoor seating, in the shade, so even though it was so hot outside it actually felt pretty comfortable. The food was great and the Doc enjoyed his beer. I look forward to going back again next time we're up in that area. It was a great way to end the day!
