The Blizzard of 2013 ~ Part 1

This morning we woke up and found that they had finally cancelled our schools in anticipation for the upcoming winter storm.  It was already snowing (albeit very lightly) and we had a dusting on our roads.  I knew it was only going to get worse as the day went on with the chance that we'd be stranded for a while, I decided we needed to get out while we still could!  The boys wanted pancakes at McDonald's and so I decided to surprise them and take them to the one two towns over that has a play place.  Not only were they going to get the pancakes they wanted, but they were going to have the chance to get the wiggles out of their system.

8am, a dusting of snow on the driveway
Breakfast!
Ready for some fun!
So excited to finally get the chance to play!
They must have gone up and down this slide 50 times!
A little static electricity

Although it was very light and didn't accumulate much, it pretty much snowed all day here.  I took this picture at 4:30pm so that I could gauge how much snow we get and compare it to what it looks like when we wake up in the morning!  If we get as much as they have been predicting those solar lights on the walkway will be buried!

The snow really picked up around 7 when we got outside.  We were able to get in a round of clearing the driveway and the boys were excited to play.
The comparison so far...

Such good helpers!

While working on the driveway we saw our neighbors were outside too, so we popped over to say hello.  They were getting ready to try and light their Christmas Tree on fire and set off some sparklers.  They had a blast with the sparklers but the tree would not stay lit and so with the wind picking up and no fire to keep us all warm we decided it was time to call it a night.

The fire ended up being a dud.  No matter what they tried the tree would not stay lit.

It was fun to play in the snow for a bit, I hope we wake up to lots more so we can get in some good sledding in the morning!
