Visiting Cape Cod

Today after baseball we headed down to the Cape for a cookout.  The boys got to see their Nana and Great Aunts and Uncle and of course Casey the dog!  After eating we did some family portraits and then headed to the beach.  The water was surprisingly warm, but the wind made it feel very cold down at the beach.  The kids had fun though and because it is before Memorial Day we got to take Casey with us!

Cape Cod Christmas!

On Thursday we celebrated Christmas with the Doc's extended family on the Cape! It was very laid back, relaxing day filled with lots of yummy foods. We did a tapas style shmorgishborg, with stuffed mushrooms, little smokies, homemade baked beans (my favorite!), spinach & artichoke dip and then spiral ham and roasted turkey breast for sandwiches! We topped the day off with our annual Yankee swap and I'm proud to say that this is the second year in a row that I have ended up with the gift I contributed and I'm not ashamed to say it!

Of course, no function where I am in attendence would be complete without a family picture. It's nice being able to use the tripod so that one person (usually me!) isn't left out of the picture!

Merry Christmas to all and a very prosperous, happy & healthy 2012!

Vacation Part 1: Cape Cod

The IL's rent a cabin each year down on Cape Cod and so we packed up the boys and spent Saturday and Sunday down there. While down there it is tradition to play some mini-golf at Pirates Cove. David started when he was 2, and now that Shaun is 2, he was able to join in the fun!

Sunday, we were supposed to go on an Ice Cream Social Boat Cruise, but the weather was iffy and they cancelled the trip. Since it was only cloudy we decided to take the boys mini-golfing again. They have a lot of fun playing and it was too cold and windy to hit the beach. We tried a new place called with lots of animal statues. Unfortunately it started to rain by the hole 16 so we packed it up.

After we loaded up in the car we grabbed some umbrellas and headed over to a Touch a Truck fair that was going on in town. The rain wasn't too bad at that point and the boys really wanted to check it out.

We finished the day at Katie's Homemade Ice Cream Shop! BEST. ICE. CREAM. EVER! I got the white pistachio, the Doc got the Cape Cod Mud (which was a coffee based ice cream!) and the boys got cookie dough in a bowl with sugar cones on top! The ice cream was so creamy and they didn't skimp on the pistachios!

We are looking forward to finishing off the summer with our last vacation, this time we are headed north to take the boys to Story Land! David will end up missing his first day of school, but I was under the wrong impression that he was going to start AFTER Labor Day so his first day of school will be Sept 1st!

Golfing!

Last year when we were on the Cape we took David mini-golfing at Pirates Cove for the first time. He did OK, but most of the time he would just put the ball up by the hole and hit it in.

What a difference a year makes! This year he understood how the game worked! He did a great job and he even almost got a hole in one!

He is such a big boy now!

Christmas on the Cape

Christmas is officially over. Our tree is down and all the decorations put away until next year. But when you have a big family and lots of people to meet up with you have the luxury of having more than one Christmas! This past Saturday we drove down to the Cape to spend the day with the Doc's extended family. We did a Yankee Swap, had a fabulous dinner, and celebrated Nana's 80th Birthday. Normally, since her birthday is two days after Christmas, she celebrates it in February, but since we were all together I don't think she minded the Happy Birthday wishes and the cake. I know David enjoyed helping her blow the candles out!

Here are some pictures of the fun day spent with family!
