Cherry Blossom's and Swim Class

Yesterday the Doc and I took David for his first trip to DC. We went to visit with Ben & Maddie (Robyn had to work). It was the first day of the Cherry Blossom festival and last year we missed the blossom's by TWO days. This year we made it! You couldn't have asked for a better day. It was so beautiful.

The drive in was OK but as soon as we arrived in DC it was a zoo. It was so crowded we couldn't even find parking. Ben and Charlie even got into an altercation with a very irate tourist after supposedly taking the parking spot he'd been waiting 30 minutes for.

We met up with some of Ben's college friends who also live in the area and walked around the tidal basin. David was happy to see his friend Maddie again. We took some pictures and enjoyed the sun while it lasted. David was less than cooperative for our family portrait in front of the Cherry Blossom's so this was the best shot we got. He was too interested in the water.

After the walk around the tidal basin we headed back over towards the National Mall and over towards the Washington Monument. We decided to relax and watch the kite flyers. Ben gave David some Ritz crackers to try. He loved them!

It is also the first time David has been outside in the grass. It was so cute to see him try to grab it!

The Doc became a human jungle gym for Maddie. She loves to climb!

All of us enjoying the different kites.

It started to get cold so we called it a day and headed back to Ben's. We met up with more of his friends who live in the area and enjoyed some shish kabobs on the grill. David met some new friends - two boys David's age. He was by far the runt of the crew! We also realized too late that David got a nice little sunburn on his face. Guess it's time to invest in some baby sunscreen. He'll be OK - he just looks a little red! If only Maddie let him wear her hat a little longer!

After a long day you would think that the kids would've been too tuckered out to wake up early - but nope they were up bright and early.

At 10am David and I joined Maddie and Ben at their Sunday morning swim class. Robyn had found some swim shorts sized 18 months. They were HUGE on him but it was better than nothing! It was a lot of fun and David seemed to enjoy his time in the pool. He was a little unsure at first but eventually he splashed around. Since it was his usually nap time he ended up a little cranky at the end but overall it was wicked fun!

David smiles for Daddy!

Aww... David's getting so big! And you can see his hair is really starting to come in now! I can't believe that this year, the cherry blossom festival I usually go to (at the bklyn botanical gardens) is going to be snowed on!
