Vacationland 2015

Just as we do every August, we packed our bags and headed north to the Maine!  It's become kind of a tradition that we spend our first day at Funtown Splastown USA.  The boys are all getting braver and trying new rides.  After we close the park down, we head to Belfast ready to enjoy our fun traditions of swimming in the lake and enjoying new activities like hiking up a small mountain and catching a ball game!  Here are some of the highlights of our trip in picture form!

MONDAY AUGUST 10 - FUNTOWN SPLASHTOWN

The first part of our day is spent at Splashtown, and the SD card for my waterproof camera was corrupt so no good pictures of us in that part again (last year I forgot my waterproof camera and DSLR at home!).  I did manage to snap this shot with my phone before the end of the day!  The boys love the waterparks.  David impressed me by trying on of the enclosed slides where the floor drops!

They LOVE waterparks!
After we had enough of Splashtown, we all changed and headed over to Funtown for the rides.  We found out that Shaun was tall enough to go on Excalibur if he wanted.  He said he would think about it.

Tie dye shirts for their birthday party!
While Evan wasn't tall enough for a big kid ticket, he was tall enough to DRIVE his own bumber boat!

So excited he could go by himself!

Evan and Avery have fun on the kiddie rides while the bigs were off doing their thing!
Their favorite!

David wanted to ride by himself!

After lots of rides, it was time for Excalibur!  Shaun decided he would try it as long as he could sit with Dad!  David was fine to sit by himself!
Ready for the big ride!
Shaun - before he knew what he got himself into!
Up, up and away!
Not sure he was a fan - but proud of him for trying!
David and Me!
Evan and Dad
It was such a fun day and it's nice when we can close down the park and not have too much crankiness!  It would be a long drive up to Belfast, but we didn't have any major plans for the following day so that they could just chill out and detox from the fun!

TUESDAY AUGUST 11 - MOVIE DAY

The kids did not sleep in, not that we were surprised!  And it didn't take ours long to find the zipline!  Charlie helped build the platform the last summer but the zipline was installed later!  David & Shaun could not wait to try it out!  We opted not to let Evan try since we were not sure he would have the arm strength to hold himself

Even Dad had to give it a try!

After hanging out and relaxing during the day, we headed to Bangor for some dinner and a movie!  Ant-Man was a HUGE hit with the kids!
Ant-Man!

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 12 - TRAILS

We did some nature walking around Belfast.  It was a fun morning.   We even found a rope swing that Charlie just decided he HAD to try out.  I was not amused!

He wants to give me heart failure!

THURSDAY AUGUST 13 - HIKE

Since the nature walk was a success, we decided to try taking them on a hike.  The kids did great and the views were amazing.  It was such a gorgeous day you could see for miles!

FRIDAY AUGUST 14 - LAKE DAY

The day we spend at the lake is usually the highlight of our trip.  The boys love to swim in the lake and we make quite a feast on the grill and even take a ride out on the boat!  David was really looking forward to trying out his new GoPro that he got for his birthday!  That morning however, David tripped and fell onto a small metal garden fence.  The gash was large enough that it required a trip to the hospital for stitches, and strict orders to keep it dry.  That meant no swimming or jumping off the boat with the GoPro.

Suns out! Guns out!
He only went up to his knees!
So Shaun got to be my jumper for the annual lake picture this year!

He still wanted to bring the GoPro!

Ben let David drive the boat for a bit, since he missed out on all the jumping off the boat fun.

SATURDAY AUGUST 15 - GAME DAY

On our last day of vacation we made plans to hang out around town in the morning and pack up and head down to Portland to catch the Seadogs play.  A severe storm rolled in right before we got into town causing a delay in the start time and wreaking havoc on the credit card machines.  But the game was a blast and the kids enjoyed one last fun activity before we headed back to NH!

As we arrived, Portland welcomed us with a beautiful double rainbow!  We had JUST missed the big storm that had rolled in about 15 minutes before we arrived.

The game was great and they ended up winning and we some some big home runs!  It was lots of fun!  Our trips to Maine are always a highlight of the summer!
